I think he wanted to give out a message of Anna's own bodily autonomy. she was in fact important, too. Great book nonetheless. The movie was hopeful.

I think the movie ending actually made Anna important too, not just Kate. The book was cruel to Anna. She lived & died for Kate from herfirst breath.

I think it should’ve ended with Anna passing from the surgeries and Kate passing from it not working. That would’ve been more heart wrenching
