This baby seal is louder than adult seals and has worse manners than your little cousin. Meet Tsuki, the daughter of Yo Chan, at Tokkari Center. When staff say 'Good morning!' she responds right back with her own sounds. She's known as the chattiest seal at the facility - constantly vocalizing, making dinosaur-like 'GOOO' sounds, and never staying quiet. But what makes her THIS chatty - most seals don't even talk this much. Why is this baby seal so vocal compared to everyone else? There’s much more to it than Tsuki just being bratty - it's Tsuki actively learning social skills. Young seals use vocalization to practice communication, establish bonds, and figure out their place in the group. So every time she responds, she's kinda attending seal social school. But there's actually more happening. Baby seals are typically the loudest members of the colony because they're in a critical learning phase. Pups can actually adjust their pitch and volume because they're one of the few mammals capable of vocal learning, the same ability that helps humans develop speech. And Tsuki is experiencing something called the Lombard Effect - she's automatically adjusting her vocal volume to compete with the noisy environment at Tokkari Center. As you may have seen, there’s constant visitors, staff interactions, and facility sounds, so she's learned to speak up to be heard. And she has the freedom to do this because she was born in captivity, away from possible predators. And if you compare that to the other rescue residents at Tokkari Center, it makes tsuki sound even louder! But at least she has better manners than her mom Yo Chan, who will just ignore you when you say good morning So if you had the chance to speak to Tsuki, what would you tell her? #seals #animals #marineanimals #cute
