@drjaleelmohammed: Postpartum psychosis is a severe mental health condition that can occur after childbirth. Here are some of the main symptoms 1. Hallucinations: Women experiencing postpartum psychosis may have hallucinations, which involve perceiving things that are not actually present. These hallucinations can involve seeing, hearing, feeling, or even smelling things that aren't real. 2. Delusions: Delusions are false beliefs that are strongly held despite evidence to the contrary. In postpartum psychosis, women may develop delusions that are often bizarre or irrational. These can include beliefs of being controlled by external forces, having special powers, or being persecuted. 3. Mood swings: Extreme mood swings are a common feature of postpartum psychosis. Women may rapidly swing between euphoria and deep depression, often experiencing intense agitation, irritability, or anxiety. 4. Confusion: Confusion and disorientation are typical symptoms of postpartum psychosis. Women may have difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things. They may also have trouble distinguishing between what is real and what is not. It's important to note that postpartum psychosis is a medical emergency and requires immediate treatment. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, it's crucial to seek help from a healthcare professional as soon as possible. #psychosis #postpartum #MentalHealth #psychiatry #psychiatrist

But hear me out… are they hallucinations? Or is there a lot we just don’t see but somehow something happens in the brain or the hormones and we get a glimpse and it’s scary because we’re not familiar with it? Like people with schizophrenia or cats. They see much more than we do!

Oh geeze. This was me. I had a 78 hour labor with very little sleep. Then 2 days after that the hospital staff kept waking me up every 30 minutes for dumb reasons. It was a cruel start to motherhood.

I was so sleep deprived I was having auditory hallucinations. I could hear a child saying "mama" like it was standing right next to me. Scared me but I knew what it was. I needed sleep.
