No one likes to feel rejected but then there are those who feel intense emotional sensitivity and pain associated with the perception of rejection.  Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD) is not an official diagnosis but it is a descriptive term to describe an emotional condition characterized by an intense vulnerability to the perception of being rejected by others.  Individuals with diagnosis of ADHD, borderline personality disorder, depression, social anxiety disorders can have symptoms of RSD.    Individuals with RSD experience extreme emotional pain and distress at even the slightest hints of disapproval, criticism, or exclusion, often leading to heightened feelings of shame, inadequacy, or low self-worth.  Unless they are conscious, being in a relationship or working with someone who has RSD might make it extremely difficult to give them any feedback because they will either react aggressively and/or defensively against that feedback. You might find yourself ‘walking on eggshells’ around them.      Neurologically, it is hypothesized that an overactive amygdala, the brain’s center for emotional responses (aka fight or flight), may play a role in amplifying feelings of rejection.    Psychologically, early life experiences, including childhood trauma, neglect, or chronic exposure to critical environments, can make an individual more prone to developing RSD.    Over time, these experiences can create deeply ingrained patterns of thinking, where one becomes hyper-alert to potential signs of rejection, often perceiving it even when it doesn’t exist, and reacting with disproportionate emotional intensity.  #adhdawareness #adhd #adhdlife #rejectionsensitivedysphoria #sensitive #emotionalintelligence #rejection #LearnOnTikTok #psychology
