@joshterryplays: Learn to balance “I’m a special snowflake” with “I just follow the rules.” Half of your problems come from being unwilling to take basic advice because you think you’re special. The other half come from trusting the system so much you’re willing to believe anything you’re told. You need to accept that basic advice is sometimes all you need, your situation is not unique, suck it up, and get to work. Then, when basic advice doesn’t work you need to stop, understand that life is nuanced, and find the solution that works for you. The way you balance these two things is by looking at your results. If you obey and listen to other’s advice and it never works, rebel against convention and find your own path. But if you rebel all the time and your life is in shambles, do what the old wise people tell you to do.
