Does western medicine care about food? I don’t think so. How can I make such a bold claim? What bastion of medicine resides in a tower more ivory than the Mayo Clinic? This hospital system is widely regarded as one of the best in the country/world and should be an example within medicine… But look at what is served to doctors, nurses and patients at the Mayo Clinic cafeteria in Scottsdale, Arizona… Fake meat, grain-fed meat cooked in seed oils (Pam = canola oil), deep fried chicken fingers, Tostitos, soda, candy, pretzels, chocolate, and many other packaged, processed foods… I couldn’t find a single “healthy” thing in the whole cafeteria at the Mayo Clinic! THIS is the example for other hospitals and care delivery systems across the US? THIS is the example for patients, how we show them what is healthy and the importance of food in the diet? THIS is the example of how doctors and nurses might eat to be as healthy as possible so they can provide the best care? This is none of those things. This is a bad joke, and after seeing it the only conclusion I can come to is that western medicine doesn’t care about you eat one bit… And it also does a horrible job at thinking about food as any sort of lever in health and illness, much less THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT lever in health and disease. Here’s what I think: the food you eat is the MOST important determinant of the quality of your life. Yes, exercise, sleep, sunlight, community are all important, but I believe food is KING and for western medicine to ignore this a MASSIVE oversight that leads so many to continue to suffer. What do I think should be in the cafeteria at the Mayo Clinic? I’d love to see them offer an #animalb#animalbased organs, meat, fruit, honey and raw dairy = what I believe are the best foods for humans on the planet… But I’d be happy if they got rid of the garbage and even offered an non-processed Mediterranean diet. Heck, I’d even be happier to see a salad bar as long as the dressing isn’t full of seed oils…
