@theendostasisproject: Invisible Illness. What would it look like? The incredibly talented artist @Таня Галахова brilliantly depicts the unseen effects of depression. The signs & symptoms of a life half-lived. As soon as I saw it, I saw a life lived with chronic conditions; of living with endometriosis, adenomyosis or PCOS. If the psychological impact & trauma of chronic illness was visible, it would look like this. Probably worse. A deep, dark shadow hauling you into what feels like a life half-lived. Internal wounds, imperceptible, inflicted within, sucking the life force out of you. Literally. With endometriosis, women are drained from inflammation, bloating & debilitating pain. Pain can be experienced at various sites within the body, wherever endo has managed to form. Invisible illness distorts reality, with life experienced through an anxious lens. Life as you’ve known it has completely changed. You feel unsafe, isolated, defenceless. Education is non-existent. Doctors are dismissive. Treatments are a scarce commodity. If it were visible, people would understand. Doctors would understand. We might even have a cure. Or at the very least – be treated with empathy, dignity, respect & be afforded the best management tools available.
