Yep. Jennette McCurdy's memoir was so good partly because she had years since these events happened. She had time to reflect. She had therapy.

I think it’s a very American/western concept that a narrative must show growth. Sometimes it’s more interesting to tell a story honestly & not force a moral/lesson

I read it as a book about BPD, so her list of diagnoses at the end of the book made SENSE to me. Retrospectively it’s been hard to think about.

I remember reading an interview in early 2020 where John Mulaney mentioned he was hiding that he was eating candy from his wife and that always struck me as really strange

i feel the smallest bit bad for her because it's clear they rushed publishing to capitalize on the divorce (despite him never being mentioned!!) & it could have been better given time/self reflection

My favorite thing about this book is that it’s breaking the parasocial relationship people decided they had with her when she got divorced.

I found it relatable and imperfect. I’ve seen everyone ripping it apart. I find it hard to rate a memoir. Yes it was triggering but it was her story.

I think what was revealing about this is that so many people picked the “wrong side” to support in the JM/AMT divorce, and now they’re learning there was no right side 😮
