Cargo could get somewhere faster than FedEx or UPS (think same day), because of the amount of regularly scheduled flights. This is my experience anyhow.

The advantage of shipping on a passenger airline is that you can get same day service. The best FedEx or UPS can do is next day.

I have shipped with them. It is pretty affordable you just have to take it to the airport and have someone who can pick up from the airport.

UPS Logistics sometimes uses airline cargo services for urgent same day delivery. In enterprise IT, I've several times gotten rush deliveries that had UA or WN cargo tags.

Many airlines have cargo only planes. Most of the 747s are now cargo planes.

Fun fact my gandmother was flown in a casket on a delta flight I believe all the way to Virginia so she would be buried in Arlington cemetery
