The fear of standing at a checkout waiting to hear how much you need to pay was excruciating 😞

Growing up in a low income family I'm always looking for a deal/best value for money, but as an adult, I allow myself to 'waste' money occasionally as I never had that privilege as a youngster.

I never had pocket money growing up, so when I had money if my own I spent it. I really struggle with budgeting as a result as spending is a dopamine mine. being in debt you can't get out of sucks.

Still do it now. I'm comfortable, but I can't just jump on something. Ah well, got the rainy day fund incase something burns down.

I moved out at 17 with my 2yr old… I also use to have to add everything up while I shopped as I didn’t have a lot of money… my husband tho always had money growing up and had a wasteful mentality (1)

Financial trauma is horrible. It’s been years but I still feel incredibly guilty and stressed whenever I spend a bigger amount of money. No matter how needed the purchase is and that I can afford it

I have money blindness, if I have the money in my account I will just spend it and forget that there's other things to pay for, or I'm like oooh deal it's only 20 quid .......

Spending a large amount of money, even though I have the "extra cash" now, I still feel light headed and have to lay down.

One of the very few positive things about growing up with poor parents who were idiots with money is that I am very careful with money. Some would say too careful! But better safe than sorry!!

I’m the exact same way!! My MIL gave me money for Crimbo and I got told very sternly that I was to buy something I wanted. It was a very hard decision, overwhelmed myself and everything!

adding up the cost on phone calculator as you go round Aldi or Lidl is so relatable and the sinking feeling when you can't get everything on your list 🙂↕️makes me so grateful for what I have now

I would load the essentials first and have the nice bits at the end in case I had to stop. Now I'm a nightmare and spend too much, I hated that feeling.

I get that as I did that at uni during food shops but I will admit I am different now after that. I will still look for bargains even though I earn decent money but not enough to actually move out 1/2

1) For various reasons we’ve had to live like that in our lives so we’re exactly the same when buying stuff, but on the flip side, I also now try to make sure I’ve got everything I could possibly need

Oh @rich pink, I can relate to what you’re saying as my hubby is the same. His Dad had issues with money in terms of spending too much and going above the family’s means….

Same here Rich. Like branded stuff, I can’t do it. Has the be the best value item, I can’t upgrade, it’s not in my head I might enjoy it vs the money spent
