I live in Canada. One way you can frame it is through a "perspective report" where you give them groups ex) immigrants, Canadians, Trump, etc. and have them explore the various perspectives.

In my USH class we paused on Great Depression for a couple of days to do a deep dive on the protections & limitations of the Bill of Rights (mostly the 1st & 4th Amendments) for no specific reason 🙂
