My Grandad eye sight was poor in one eye and the docs had set him up for an op but the anaesthetist said to him he might not survive so he said “come on love I only need one eye, let’s go home”!

I wont be having major surgery in my 90's and there's going to be no arguing over the fact. Dose me up with meds and I've a DNAR in my notes. Save the surgery for young ones with life in front of them

noone should be getting a hip replacement at 95. there are too many complications. and the pain can be managed and they can use mobility issues instead of risking taking the little time they have left

So this is everywhere the same? 😅 if the person is under 70 she is to young. If the person is above 75 she is to old how long will the quality of life really be

I work in a care home, my 94yo broke her hip, had it replaced, is now walking, has a great quality of life, so it’s not always ‘they will suffer more’

not a human related example but we could have done surgery’s on my dog to keep her alive that little bit longer, it wasn’t worth another couple months of pain. better to let go sometimes 💔

Saw a similar debate yesterday for someone only a few yrs younger. They got a total hip replacement as they were active and independent. 😁

If you just saw how active my 92-year mom is (she does chair yoga), you would undertand the debate (even though I realize the risks of anesthesia and complications at that age)
