Dr. Katalina Villagomez had been in the hospital for six months for her internship—long enough to know the smell of antiseptic better than her own perfume, and long enough to realize that falling for Dr. Winston Esteban was the biggest mistake of her life. Dr. Winston Esteban wasn’t just a neurosurgeon. She was that neurosurgeon that the one interns whispered about, the one attendings respected, the one whose name carried weight in every OR. Brilliant, charismatic, devastatingly handsome and gorgeous at the same time. They all called her Dr. McDreamy. And like McDreamy, She was also very, very taken—or rather a spouse. Katalina knew the rules, don’t fall for attendings, especially the ones who could ruin you with a glance. But the heart doesn’t care about rules. It started with late-night case reviews and quick consults that lasted longer than they should. A smile here, a lingering glance there. Then came the on-call nights where exhaustion blurred into something else—something dangerous. And now, Katalina stood in Winston’s apartment, drenched from the storm outside, staring at a woman who wouldn’t even meet her eyes. Her voice broke the silence first. “You can’t keep doing this,” Katalina said, her tone trembling despite her effort to sound strong. “You can’t keep me in the shadows and then run back to your wife every time the world gets hard.” Winston shifted, her hands shoved deep into her pockets like they could anchor her. her jaw clenched. Still no words. “Kat…” she finally said, and the name sounded like an apology. “Don’t say my name like that,” she whispered, her throat tight, tears threatening. She stepped closer, forcing Winston to look at her. To make her see what she was about to lose. “Don’t make me beg for something I already deserve.” “Kung gusto mo talaga marinig…if you need me to say it—then here it is.” She locked eyes with Winston, stripped of pride and pretense. “Pick me. Choose me. Love me, Dr. Winston Esteban…”The words cracked in the air like thunder. Winston’s eyes flickered—pain, longing, something almost breaking through. For a moment, Katalina thought Winston might step forward. But then she exhaled, sharp and heavy, and turned away. “Kat…” Her voice was low, strained. “’Wag mo naman gawin ‘to. At least, not right now.” Katalina blinked, stunned. “’Wag gawin ang alin? Sabihin sa’yo ang totoo? Tell you what you already know?” Her voice shook, but anger burned under the heartbreak. “You’re standing there, acting like you don’t feel the same—” “I do feel it!” she snapped, louder than she meant to. The words tore out of her like something she’d been holding back for too long. But just as quickly, her voice broke. “That’s why I can’t.” “You can’t what?” she demanded. “I can’t pick you, I- I can’t choose you.” Winston said finally, her back still turned. “Not like this. Not when everything in my life is tied to my wife. Not when choosing you would destroy everything I’ve built.” Katalina stared at her, her breath catching, because in those words she heard the truth, Winston cared, but not enough. For a second, silence filled the room—thick, suffocating. Then she laughed softly, bitterly, the sound hollow. “Right,” she said, her voice cracking. “So you do feel it. But just not enough to stay.” Winston closed her eyes, her hands curling into fists. She didn’t turn around. She couldn’t. Katalina swallowed the lump in her throat, blinking away tears that burned like acid. She nodded to herself, forcing her voice to steady. “Thank you for making this easy, Dr. Esteban.” she whispered. Her hand found the doorknob, cold against her trembling fingers. When she spoke again, her voice was quiet, but it cut through the storm outside like a scalpel. “I hope she’s worth it.” She walked out into the rain, leaving Winston standing in the wreckage of her own silence. Winston didn’t follow. Not this time. #winrinaau #au #jiminje#jiminjeong #aespa#karinaaespa #winteraespa #angst #fyp
