the "eye of the Sahara " . It fits most descriptions of Atlantis, plus if you look at satellite images of the area, it looks like a flood washed all across it.

Well he's wrong. Plato said Atlantis was in the Atlantic Pelagos, in front of the Pillars of Heracles, between the straits. The problem is, Pelagos means Sea and was specifically used for the Aegean.

I think the most obvious answer is that Solon was talking about the Minoans and island of Crete. The details become fuzzy in the retelling before it was written down by Plato. But it was likely Crete.
