For the final leg of his visit to earthquake-affected towns in Northern Cebu, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assesses the ongoing relief and recovery efforts for families displaced by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake at the Bogo Tent City in Barangay Cogon, Bogo City, Cebu on October 17, 2025. During his media statement, President Marcos Jr. praises the joint response measures and emphasizes the Administration’s ongoing support for those affected. “Kaya kami nandito at maganda naman makita na malaki ang progreso, malaking itinulong ng Red Cross kaya nandito ang ating chairman, the former Senator Dick Gordon,” the President says, emphasizing the Organization’s readiness and efficiency, pointing to the rapid deployment of tents and relief goods. While many families still live in tents, the Administration is shifting towards more durable options through modular shelter units from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to provide stronger housing for those displaced. “I'm happy to report na meron talaga lahat, everybody, lahat na nasiraan ng bahay ay meron nang tinitirahan kahit na tent lang muna. At kung makita ninyo, doon ang dinaanan nating tent city, pinapalitan na natin yung tent at nilalagay na natin yung mas maganda, mas matibay na housing para sa ating tinatawag na modular shelter na ating bagong binibigay pagka magkakaganito,” he says. The President also lauds Red Cross’ initiative to set up a swimming pool for children as a simple but powerful mental health intervention that helps restore normalcy amid the disaster. “Dahil ang mga bata kahit papano talagang nayanig ang isip nila dahil sa lindol, tapos nawalan ng bahay, tapos lumipat dito. At least nakita mo, tumatawa na naman, nagsisigaw. Malaking bagay ‘yan para sa mental health ng ating mga kabataan,” he adds. The Chief Executive notes that other efforts include DHSUD’s provision of construction materials to help residents start rebuilding, especially for those whose houses were partially damaged. The Administration plans to prioritize those whose homes were completely destroyed for reconstruction. “We will keep working to make sure everybody is okay, everybody is healthy, everybody has what they need,” says the President. Before the President’s arrival, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed financial assistance to earthquake victims amounting to Php5,250.00 each to families with partially damaged homes and Php10,125.00 each to families with totally damaged homes. They also provided family food packs and hot meals through the mobile kitchen program. As of this date, 152 families totaling 830 people are currently staying in Bogo Tent City. #MARCOSLOYALIST #PROTECTPBBM #pbbm #CapCut
