@blackgirlswhobrunch: Replying to @Erika | Black Girls Who Brunch I didn’t follow my own rules and pull each census. There we have it, the 1900 census seems to be the most complete and accurate of all of them. The popes maternal family, grandparents, and aunts all living in a Black community and noted as Black.
A lot of Haitians migrated to Cuba back then, the Santo Domingo thing could be explained as Haiti’s capital use to be Saint-Domingue as well.

He is the embodiment of the human family with mixed race. Stir us all together and “ love one another as I have loved you, thereby they will know you are disciples of Christ” ( if you’re religious).

People in the Caribbean tend to migrate and mix a lot. For example, my grandmother is Haitian but her family moved to and lived in Cuba in the early 1900s for some time.

This is fascinating and a sociological deep dive of the US melting pot. The perception of race and how it can shape outcomes. I know plenty of families who fled north for safety/more opportunities.

I believe that home was torn down for the Claiborne expressway which there is a whole history behind that area. They literally destroyed a thriving black community for a highway

My great great grandfather identified as Yt up until 1950. After that he identified as Blk. This was because he worked at the port of New Orleans and had retired.
