It just makes me realize how much the story of apothecary diaries handles alls these female characters from the concubines, servant girls or ladies in waiting set in this era period because it shows not only how poverty and patriarchy affects ppl but how heavily it affects women especially in a royalty-military based society

I fear many cannot handle nuance in a lot of media anymore. The author and the series very clearly state why she is smaller. She also doesn’t act like a child and you can tell the younger children in the series. Also…she’s 17 at the beginning of the show..she’s a young adult.

There is multiple children in the series and there is a clear distinction between maomao and them. I understand that anime is not the best when it comes to drawing grown women who look like grown women, but the apothecary diaries isn’t one of them.
