@embracingecho: I had two seizures in the waiting room within an hour. My husband told the front desk and the doctor asked a nurse to watch me in the staff area. She came out visibly annoyed that she was forced to watch me. She’s not in this video. I had advocated to the nurse that I had epilepsy, the types, that I’m completely unaware of my seizures, and even the genetic mutation I had for epilepsy. She rolled her eyes. When I asked for my husband to sit next to me in the empty seat of the staff area, she said NO. I never saw her again. I didn’t know I had that many absence seizures until watching the videos back. She never returned. No one knew anything about me but my name. Other nurses were not told I had epilepsy and had been having seizures. We went to the emergency room for an actual emergency. My labs were terrible, my cultures were positive, and it was triggering epileptic seizures. It’s dangerous to let epileptics have clusters of seizures like this. It might not have became convulsive until the end but they are still dangerous especially in repetition. SUDEP can be an unfortunate result of uncontrolled seizures in epilepsy. I’m thankful for the nurse that paid attention to her surroundings and to me. She was the reason everyone else took the situation more seriously. I could see some of the staff were visibly frustrated from this video and maybe they were tired, understaffed, and there were too many emergencies at once but I ended up in two comas due to uncontrollable epilepsy triggered from a central line infection after this and no one took it seriously until I was fighting for life. Be kind not dismissive. This is healthCARE. #EpilepsyAwareness #SeizureDisorder #Advocacy #HealthCareMatters #PatientAdvocacy #InvisibleIllness

The male nurse that sighed…. He seemed frustrated. Not with you/the seizure. But with the fact that you hadn’t been watched, weren’t being monitored, and were in a very unsafe position

The fact she separated you from your husband AND refused to watch you herself??? Should be criminal. This is so scary & I hope you’re ok. ❤️

As a medical professional, that was the annoyed sigh that a coworker put a patient in danger.

Oh that sigh sounded like a “I bet I know who’s patient this is and they’re conveniently not doing their job again” sigh. I’ve worked with one of those nurses too

As a medical staff who is trained in siezures, they were 10000% frustrated with the fact that you were left alone like this. I’m so sorry.

I'm gonna guess that sigh was because there has been other issues with this nurse and they are sick of it. that sigh wasn't towards you.

For those who are mad the nurse who said “sorry she’s not my patient” was most likely apologizing because she had no medical history on her while they were asking for a report. She clearly stepped in to help.

I can promise you the frustration and sighs had zero to do with you and all to do with the fact that this was an emergency and no one knew where your nurse was. It’s extremely frustrating to be in these situations where it’s critical, literally life or death, and the lead isn’t available. When they say “not my patient” no one means it as “not my patient, not my problem” they’re saying it as a clarifying response so they can figure out exactly who is managing you so we can know your situation, history, and already performed interventions. You came in on one of the hardest days of your life and made to feel as a burden which is never okay. I’m so sorry this happened to you. You go whatever route you feel like is right for your journey. I hope they find out what is going on and you are able to live your life to the fullest without these scares. ❤️

While I agree with everyone I also think the “ not my patient” was in reference to not knowing anything about her being there, not necessarily saying “she’s not my patient, not my problem”

“She’s not my patient” is more along the line of they don’t know past medical history, allergies, or even why they’re there, they don’t know if this is their first seizure or 20th

There’s a huge difference in “not my patient” (I don’t want to do anything for them) and “not my patient” (sorry I have no info or background) and I think this was the latter and entirely appropriate to say

People really don’t use context clues anymore. “Not my patient” in an emergency is meant to signify “I don’t know jack about this person or their medical history or why they’re here but let’s try and help anyway” like please use your heads

you can tell his sigh was not directed at your seizure but at the fact he probably has an idea of who shouldve been watching you and who stupidly wasnt there in this scary situation.

Yeah as an ems provider I know that sigh. That’s the “if I could fire my coworker myself I fucking would” sigh. Make it all time time with a paramedic I work with whose a danger to patients due to their age and mental health

The fact that you’re sitting in a chair too is disturbing. No matter the type of seizure- we always had seizure precautions: bed or stretcher, side rails up, pad the sides. I’m so sorry you dealt with such unsafe, inadequate care.
