There is nothing more nerve-calming than hearing your name announced over your semi-hometown rodeo as… Eula Steinmetz 💀 I swear, I was panicking until that exact moment. I turned and looked at Kristi going down the alley and said, “I’m going to kill Casey Stone” 😅 He’s been the only one calling me that since last fall, and just when I thought I had enough nicknames from high school… we add another to the list 🙃 Jokes aside, Rollo ran 8th on the ground and still managed to be 9th overall out of the whole rodeo. One hole out of the money. She’s my little 4-year-old that could. I’ve thrown her to the wolves this year, and not only does she handle it… she excels. She ran a 17.092 and the last hole paid was a 17.084. That’s how tight it was. Earlier this week I had a full-blown meltdown. Rollo’s eye was swollen and she was squinting. I didn’t waste a second. I loaded her up and took her to Dr. Stites at McKey Equine. I think everyone in that building knew I was about 5 seconds away from a breakdown. She had an ulcer in her eye. I went home and treated more aggressively than prescribed because I wasn’t taking any chances. We went back Friday for a recheck and got the all-clear her eye was healing perfectly and I could run her. Dr. Stites and Alia, thank you. I’ve watched him work on eyes since I started working there in 2020, and he’s stressed the importance of not waiting with eye injuries. He’s saved a lot of eyes. and taught me enough to know to act fast. If it weren’t for that, I might not have caught it in time.
