In our last two homes, we used the Costco shiplap + hook system. Each board ran about $1,200, and we used three. Once we added up the cost plus labor… hiring made more sense for us this time around. Can you customize it? YES. I knew each boy needed their own drop zone. I also knew I needed a place for backpacks. Because what we were doing before? Wasn’t working. No assigned areas meant stuff landed everywhere. Shoes, cleats, water bottles… nothing had a home. And moms, you know what happens then. 👉 The average home has over 400,000 items. And research shows moms manage the majority of it. Clutter isn’t just annoying—it raises cortisol, drains your focus, and creates a mental load that’s hard to shake. So here’s the truth I’ve learned as a mom of five: There are two things that truly matter when it comes to keeping your home organized: A dedicated space — if it doesn’t have one, it becomes clutter. The right system — without it, your goals fall apart. You can want an organized home… A clean entryway after school. A place for homework and shoes. But a goal is a one-time idea. A system is a daily rhythm. I didn’t just want order—I wanted a system my boys could follow. One they’d become habituated to, so our home could function even when life gets chaotic. Because let’s be honest—without systems like this, I couldn’t run a home of seven and still keep my sanity. And the beauty is, once a system works for them… It works for me. 🙌🏻
