:Solo Leveling single handedly brought a significant number of non-anime fans into the anime community. This is a real life impact. Not only did it bring kids and young adults but old men and women even watch Solo leveling on their phones in buses and trains. Society has made people believe animes with complexity and depth only should win AOTY. Don't get me wrong Frieren is a great show with great story but c'mon Frieren isn't the type of anime you'd recommend for a non anime fan. The numbers prove that a lot of people don't really look at complexity and depth to make judgement. Sometimes a simple but overwhelmingly enjoyable anime can make a big difference. that's why it wins the anime of the year 😭
