The relationship between Violet and Gilbert is often misunderstood. When they met Violet was a child soldier with no real emotions and Gilbert was the first to show her kindness. He gave her a name and told her to live. When he said I love you it wasn’t romantic at first it was the love of someone who saw her as human not a tool. Years later Violet was 18 a young woman who had grown through pain healing and real emotions. When they found each other again their love had become romantic and that is okay because it wasn’t rushed and it wasn’t wrong. Gilbert didn’t push her or expect anything. He even tried to stay away thinking it was better for her. But she chose him freely and with a full heart. Some people say there wasn’t enough romance shown between them but that is not a bad thing. Their story is not about dramatic kisses or love scenes it is about deep emotional connection. Their bond was stronger than words. They were each other’s one and only the most important person in each other’s life. And that is what truly matters. The story is set in a time where age gaps were more accepted. But more importantly their love came from respect understanding and care. It grew naturally over time and that is what makes it so beautiful and real.
