I wish they'd build a small modular rector near my home town so we can get some good jobs.

thank you so much for the reply! I live in Georgia and the closest NPP is inn Savannah I believe. I've always wanted to have something to do with nuclear energy

There are Less than 6000 positions, 400 new openings a year, and expected to decline by 2033.

I still think a rudimentary understanding of nuclear physics would be a bonus 😆

Hi. So yes in terms of education all you need is a high school degree but there are requirements set by the NRC that make you not able to go straight from high school to being a nuclear reactor operator.

I have a two year degree in Nuclear Power. Though it was started by SCE&G(now Dominion) for the construction of the 2 AP1000 reactors being built but has since been halted.

I worked in the power industry for decades. Great, somewhat grueling job. In my case, I would have had to leave town to work in the nuclear field. Now I wish I had.

I’m ex Navy Nuc. Lots of guys joined the civilian nuclear system when they got out. The Navy nuclear training is pretty intense. I remember explaining integrated plant physics to a nuclear grad student while I was pursuing my engineering degree

Honestly most jobs in nuclear pay really well. I just got a job in the supply warehouse of a nuclear power plant and the starting pay is $45/hr

Every job saying they want experience at another plant to get into the class

$103,600 sounds a little light. Especially for Maryland. After overtime I'd expect $160k
