100% agree!! ‘influencer culture’ just seems so devoid of authenticity and compassion, a REAL influencer wouldn’t be afraid to offer basic humanity and use their platform for good

something i think about a lot is the fact that a lot influencers make a lot of money where they buy nice things (cars, designer clothes, etc) but very few ever give back to charity. and even when they do it seems like they make it into a huge deal where they have to make 20 videos about it to impress their followers rather than out of pure generosity

they are human billboards, they serve to exist as advertisements and i think this is such a great example of capitalism, whilst this’ll appear as a gross oversimplification because i’m not addressing every element of each topic, all oppressive structures in the modern day link to capitalism in some capacity so because the condemnation of israel, advocacy for palestine, humanisation of immigrants and opposition of the deportation of human beings is not within the interests of governments and politicians it’ll not be within the interests of brands / companies and that bleeds down into employees and then also influencers and celebrities because they ar then the face of such brands / products. they are compelled to be apolitical or to conform to the interests of a brand / its consumer base, and at risk of sounding rude influencers are often talentless, they don’t have skills, art or success to fall back on their income relies on brands approaching them and promoting products to consumers. whether they choose to or not they become soulless billboards but they do have the capacity to let on more than they do, but it’s certainly a mindset that engulfs this entire ‘industry’ where no one wants to step out of line out of fear of loosing what they could possibly gain.

I mean they’re basically modern day sales people. I think all the hate on them is just rooted in misogyny. It’s a great way for women of any socioeconomic background to be self employed and get rich af without having to battle misogyny in the work place. (In my work place literally all the female managers have had to sleep with the male boss 🤢). Influencers get so much hate but footballers and other useless overpaid male dominated fields don’t get as much hate

You’ve hit the nail on the head, adding to not speaking about Palestine, they will ignore comments about eating at McDonald’s and drinking Starbucks and their idiotic enablers will come and defend them in the comments calling people jealous. What makes this even worse is children are dropping out of education and failing exams to become slaves to brand deals for the rest of their lives for the luxury lifestyle that people like tallulah metcalfe portray. It has not and will never be normal to own a £30,000 car at 17 nor to have a haul of clothes from a company using fast fashion every week. They call themselves influencers but all they are doing is screwing over the planet making no impact to anyone at all.
