Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla and salt. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms. Roll into small balls, press down with a flat-bottomed glass and indent with a spoon or your fingers to make “petals.” Fill each with a spoonful of cooled jam.
