You said it all. Back in the late 80s my husband flew rescue missions out of Ft. Sam to help rescue kids from a church camp when their buses got swept away. Chopper pilots assisted trying to pull kids out with ropes. It was just heartbreaking. It’s something that sticks with you forever. I love Texas and will move back next year. I pray for comfort for these moms and dads. I’m sure you’ve read some of these hateful comments ppl have left.

I’ve been waiting for your take! It happened so fast! We have been desensitized to ALL the weather alerts. The one time they down played a hurricane, Hurricane Helene shifted East and gained speed in the middle of the night. Smacked into us as a Cat 2 150 miles inland and went on through to WNC! 😳

West Texas here and flash flood for us means to avoid certain streets in town.

Grew up in Arizona and very familiar with flash floods - we would go to watch the dry washes run for fun. A big one rarely hits, like you said every 100 yrs. Those spouting their mouths pointing fingers - you aren’t helping or being productive.

It was one of those perfect storm situations...just like NC during Helene and the fires in LA. I'm shocked the huge area that storm cell covered. Did you see it? it was massive.

Well said, Coast Guard and Army National Guard were here within hours. Food trucks are feeding first responders. I know of one RV park in Center Point that went knocking on rv doors telling campers to get out. Texas Strong.

I am not republican, however FEMA has never helped anybody. Ask any disaster stricken area that’s ever been served by them. This same thing happened, on a slightly smaller scale, in the late 80s. Yes with the kids and camps and all. Stop looking for someone to blame and do what you can, people. Or sit down and shut up.
