Do “clean and perfect” sketchbooks count? I think if we normalize showing sketchbooks with unfinished or “imperfect” works more, people might be more willing to not give up on art so quickly

Unfortunately, the only rare open junior roles for concept artists that I have seen are from companies who accept the use of Generative AI or NFT’s, or demand it. That and the Adobe suite. Terrible.

Idk if its normalized but i feel people just accept it and its gatekeeping art supplies/brushes. The amount of times ive asked what product someone is using on their paintings to be told “oh i don’t remember” or “just paints” YOU ARE USING THE PRODUCT IN YOUR YOUTUBE/TIKTOK VIDEO JUST TELL ME

Always critical on people’s work. I may be an artist but I do it for me and me only no I don’t wanna hear how “it’s just a bit” if I didn’t ask for advice don’t give it. I wasn’t raised with kindness on my art so I get super angry and defensive when people make comments it’s not for my well being it’s for them bc I start to snap.

When I see professionals tell young artists they have to use Photoshop/Wacom/AutoDesk/insert brand name item/program. Plenty of industry professionals use other painting softwares, off brand tablets, free programs like blender! And I even had plenty of people say "photoshop at its lowest costs only 'x' a month, everyone can afford that!" No, they can't! Are those things 'industry standard?' Yes, however that doesn't mean 'industry required.' As a college student I was a commuter living with family. My cousin (who worked at Apple at the time) got me a discounted iPad and I got procreate back before even the lasso tool existed on it. That was all I could afford! It changed my perception on digital art and made it so much more accessible. And then I had a professor say "in my class you have to work in photoshop" one that I really admired and respected!! And it set me back so far! There was no reason for that because at the end of the day if I would have imported it into photoshop with the layers and turned in my project he would have never known the difference. Point being: if it helps you learn and draw, use it!

People expecting concept art for free. It’s not industry standard, but so many artist do it anyways that many clients expect it. Make sure you get a no refundable deposit before generating any art 😅

ngl acting like you have to pay for digital art supplies. i used the free version of autodesk for years and would watch people left and right think its okay to bully someone for not paying for smthn like Paint Tool Sai. and the push on "you HAVE to pay for csp or else you cant make good art or art worth being paid for" my art on autodesk takes just as much work as someones art on a paid system.
