@dlee4three: OKC is the only team in the league that’s positioned to navigate 3 max contracts SGA at 35%, Chet at 25%, JDub at 25-30% even with 90% of the cap in their core 3, they can swap in cheap contributors (Cason/Sorber/Ajayi/Topic) for the expensive vets (iHart, Caruso) 14 1sts over the next 2 years, with perfectly timed extensions and staggered contracts yeah they’re gonna be a 60-win team for half a decade #greenscreen #NBA #nbavideos #basketball #basketballvideos #sports #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #viral #hoops #nbaedits #dlee4three #okc #oklahomacitythunder #nbafinals #champions #sga #shaigilgeousalexander #jalenwilliams #chetholmgren #jdub
I view OKC as the KC of the NBA. Small market team, developed their best talent in house and consistently navigates the draft and free market in savvy non-splashy ways. once KC had their core (Pat, O-line, Chris Jones, Kelce) they consistently filled out their roster with solid contributors from the draft because they weren't gambling on stars. OKC would do well to follow that model going forward. Grab a 10 ppg defensive contributor/glue guy at 24 that most teams let slide bc they're looking for "the guy."

Only in the NBA will you be criticized for locking up the core 3 of a dominant team off a title and get criticized lol. This is genuinely a cap masterclass, and asset management masterclass like we’ve never seen before

the thing is no one is saying it's impossible, it's just gonna be harder, but it is legit impossible to field and pay all those draft picks, bases on how many picks they have, who says every single pick works out, yes am I hoping the thunder mess up in the draft? yes, because it's not my team, but I can still use my eyes and the rules about the cap

History has shown you dont win with constantly changing your team. So many things have to go right for you to win a title.

2nd apron is gonna become another buzzword for casual fans who refuse to accept they are a casual fan. Like there is nothing wrong with not spending a ton of time learning about the accounting side of sports, but everyone’s about to start acting as if they’re cap experts because it’s a current talking point among front offices that media heads are parroting without context for clicks

I sincerely hope this all comes true. Your 3rd point of just cutting vets and either re-signing them to cheaper contracts or letting young guys fill in is the wild card. That's the part that sounds like the Warriors "two timelines" plan and we've seen how well that's worked out. I hope OKC does it but I am skeptical.

these dudes still have hella picks, they’re best suited to combat the cba because they can acquire new cheap talent every year 😭😭 never forgiving the clips

Found out SGAs extension doesn’t even start tracking til the season after next which then they’d have another 2 seasons before they face the repeater tax and at that time New CBA Sam presti a genius

I absolutely love the details you provided. one thing you didn't mention is the current CBA expired after the 29-30 season and with all this negative second apron talk, it may change a bit for teams that drafted their players giving out max contracts.

the catch is we will need to gamble with picks that may not convey, because if they don't trade early and they don't convey considerable value is lost. it happened already with the 76ers pick. that's how small the margin for error is.
