Home ownership is ghetto. And nobody talks about it. You can feel blessed AND stressed about it 😅

Speak to your neighbors, epecially if they have a home similar to yours and have lived in the neighborhood for a bit. On my block we all pretty much use the same plumber, electrician, and gen contractor because they're familiar with the issues of in our older homes.

Owning is cool. But renting is soooo much easier it’s so carefree.

You went straight to the final boss of home ownership— owning an older home. The maintenance is a part-time job 😮💨There is always something with new homes too. An older home is 10x the ‘something always broken’ problem.

I tell ppl all the time that a home is like a living breathing thing. It requires soooooo much attention and care. I bought my 1st property in my 20’s and single and lawd there were tears. But it will get better, just hold the faith 🤞🏾

it’s because you purchased a (beautiful) historic home, those are worth it long term but money pits especially if things weren’t fixed in recent times. my first house in my 20’s was brand new construction specifically because I did t have time for repairs. now that i’m in my 40’s, my next purchase will be a historic home because i’m ready for what comes with it. hang in there, it’ll get better!

My best advice: Rent a house before you take the plunge into home ownership. It is eye opening 🤯

Things I’m not falling for until I’m completely satisfied with my life: homeownership and having children. The way people get upset when you tell them you prefer renting and not having kids at the moment tells me everything I need to know 😅

What happened when you did the inspection? If you get the electrical, plumbing, AC/Heating, roof and foundation of your home checked out. Once all of those things are fixed, you’ll be good to go. Have them all inspected. Have a plan, find out how much it’s gonna cost and then slowly knock it out and then enjoy your house. It’s harder when you’re fixing as you go, meaning as soon as something breaks, that’s when you fix it instead of having somebody come through and really doing a thorough inspection on everything and finding out how much it’s going to cost you to fix something before it becomes a bigger problem and putting cash aside in order to do that and as somebody suggested, go to your neighbors and get their people so that you’ll have somebody legit and they could possibly give you a deal. And remember as you fix these things in your house you’re adding value, which is a great thing.

I hate that’s your experience. My homeowner experience is honestly low maintenance. It also gives you options where you can sell for a ROI or rent it out when you’re done living there.

So I’m curious, when they did the inspection, were all these issues listed on there or did they pop up after the inspection?

Buying a house built in the 1880s is far different than purchasing one today. You will continuously have things to fix.

This is an example of why privilege is so deep and layered. If your parents owned a home they can pass down knowledge from experience. Parents with homeownership knowledge and financial literacy aside from being able to give you actual finances. But now you can be that person for your family! 💗💕

Have you considered hiring a property manager for your home? 10/10 would recommended. Pay someone else to do alladat.
