I don’t think anyone ever plans on it. It can happen easily after a freak accident or surgery that didn’t go well or what have you. Ive been in recovery for 6 years and so has my husband. We have a son. 🙏

Same! My entire family is alcoholics basically. I have about 3 beers a year, one each big holiday I grill, for my grandpa in Heaven, who taught me not to drink to feel better, drink to feel even better. I don’t drink because of my dad who was an alcoholic most of my life, and now my mom is struggling with it after he gave it up. My brothers have both struggled, but one is good now. All my cousins and uncles nearbout are alcoholics. I made my grandpa a promise when I was like 10 that I’d never be like my dad in that regard. First person to get a bachelor’s degree. First person to get a master’s degree. Only teacher that I know of in my family. Most were manual labor. I didn’t get here because my parents struggled to provide. They struggled because of their addictions and my grandparents helped provide when they couldn’t. I’m here because of my grandparents and thankful and miss them every single day.

My mom was this person for me. I’m now 41 years old and unfortunately my mom died of cancer many years ago, but as an adult of a parent who did this I can tell you that one day your kids will understand what a gift this is and they will love you even more than they already do! And from one mom to another.. you’re doing great!❤️
