I did this with my daughter for Christmas when she was 15. Until last year, she still had that bank account and she is 22. She learned those lessons and has bought a car and her and my son-in-law bought their first house at 20 yrs old with cash.

Dont listen to the hate. As someone who is 16 and is just now opening their first bank account, I would’ve killed for my parents to do this for me. Not only are they getting $50, they’re being taught financial responsibility at a young age. Go mom 👏

My parents are just like you and I’m so grateful for that. Now that I’m becoming an adult, I truly appreciate that they didn’t raise me to expect everything to be handed to me. I think they’ll be proud in the long run, especially when you look around and see how some people are given everything. It’s not to be judgmental, but that kind of mindset can stick with you as you get older. My parents always taught me to be grateful for what I have, to never rely on anyone, and to always work hard because one day it will all pay off. One day they’ll look back and truly appreciate everything you did.

I did that with Tristan too and he’s only 9. Best thing I’ve ever done. Only probably is he’s still a little too kind and wants to constantly give it to friends. Part of me loves that, but part of me wants to smack him.
