I always have to remember I’m black. When walking through the park, a department store when talking to the cops, when encountering strangers. I’m thinking about it because I don’t know how others think of me, so there’s an extra layer of thought that goes into EVERY action with people, that our white friends are simply unaware of. They can be more boisterous, more inclined to lean into what we think are dangerous situations.

I taught in a pretty diverse school district for six years and it was almost EXCLUSIVELY the white kids doing and saying absolutely insane, inappropriate, dangerous, and just straight up stupid shit. And their parents allowed it/made excuses for their bad behavior. Then had the nerve to ask me why their kids were failing when…YOU’RE the one that got them a car. Not my fault they’re driving to a friend’s house and not to school for the past month. You have their locations and can check at any time, do NOT act like this is anyone’s fault but your own
