What. If. Gen z (and some millennials who maybe modeled a bit) are practicing emotional intelligence and they do a dead stare thinking “im gonna give you a minute to regulate” when someone is saying something straight out sexist or colonial or racist or oppressive, and the person on the receiving end does not understand thay they are engaging in structural abuse, and therefore just think they are being stared at?

I have. Working retail we are beginning to see them working and customers are not digging it. Look at mgrs with a legit f you I don’t have to stare and customers with a bland stare waiting for customers to complete purchases. They are just not connecting with anyone seen as someone in authority. We have to evolve and adjust as we continue to see them in public work settings. Be examples of customer svc and they’ll figure it out if they want to work because mgrs will let them go.

The first time I experienced this, I just thought no worries my dude, I to like to go nonverbal at times and waited until he was ready to engage. I think patience and understanding goes a long way.

I only see it when my teen is annoyed with me but also doesn't want to argue. It's kind of dissociative moment of glitching.

Recently had an amazingly therapeutic/constructive conversation with a male pt who was 65. About generational stuff and this stuff wealth disparity etc. We even got to misogyny and how it has caused him harm. It was amazing to see him in real time wrapping his head around everything. But it was an opportunity for me to hear his perspective and learn from his wisdom too.
One of the best experiences I’ve had in this role! Mutuality at its best 🥰

I’ve noticed with the gen z folks I work with, they take a pause before they speak to think. Older generations feel the need to fill the silence. Silence makes them uncomfortable.

THiS..hits the nail on the head..also focus on wealth not age. Soo many of the people I've protested with are boomers just as fed up as I am.

so what I'm hearing is this is gen Z's take on rbf? I interact a lot with gen z... when you ask them deep questions, prepare for deep answers - like the thoughts you gave here. Also, as a gen X parent, we passed our trauma down, and that had only been further impacted by societal BS.
