Seriously, thise are tough, there is a special tool for that, Bucket wrench, find it at paint stores and hardware stores near the paint, usually less than $5

I applauded the trying and patience for giving it a 30 minute try though! It’s probably an older bucket of paint….IT’S NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE….SERIOUS!

if you don't have the tool, try jamming the biggest flathead screwdriver you have into the slots around the side of the lid, and wedging it off working around in a circle.
