So the details aren’t really gross 😅 but they’re IMPORTANT!!! Pee is a great addition to compost because it’s full to the brim with nitrogen, an essential ingredient in composting. So when you add it to your compost it serves as a compost activator, sometimes generating heat in the pile and aiding in the decomposition of organic matter. It can really get the compost microbes going, speeding up the process overall. There are some caveats though…be careful of peeing in your cold compost if you’re on prescription meds or antibiotics. When I did a little research, some folks suggested the compost microbes can absorb the remnants of such drugs in your system. Others suggested they may not get them all and they could end up affecting your plants and food. The book Humanure talks about research and studies on sewage sludge and animal manure filled with antibiotics. They were composted and the presence of such pharmaceuticals were reduced dramatically, to the point that most was safe to use. So imagine the effect composting your pee can do to eliminate such contaminants as well. You can also decide to use it on non-edible plants if you’re worried about the trace of such drugs ending up on the food you’re gonna eat. If you are on pharmaceuticals, do further research and decide for yourself. If you ain’t, gon head and pee on that bitch!! Would you pee on your compost or collect pee to add to it? New to composting? Grab my free compost basics digital resource guide from my website in my bio :) And yes, I did wash my hands afterwards 😅 #compostfairy #composting #urine #compost #gardening #garden #pee
