buy indie games. if they care about their games there's no need to go public or sell their company. greedy people. money over passion. simply vote with wallets. don't buy games with drm, 3rd party accounts, always online, and abusive EULAs.

It's not just the gaming industry, it's everything. Investors (including private equity) have ruined the housing market, the car market, the medical industry, entertainment, and the labor market.

it's not just the gaming industry, it's every company in the world, the rich want to be richer while making everyone one else poorer

Hypothetically if I was bizdev in a studio that made a famous video game. I wouldn't say its not just investors fault. The founders are usually the one to blame. More founders screwed over their own employees than investors cheated studios. hypothetically, of course.

you mean rich men who know nothing about the companies they are investing into and making demands of those companies based on no knowledge of the industry outside of what else is selling well and threatening to pull their support if they don't make more on their investment a some that has to keep growing by law. no, really?

Just wait until we find out the reason big companies mass brought game studios to almost immediately lay off most of the staff is to replace the staff with ai processes. Keep the ip's, keep the handful of devs to help train the ai and fire everyone else. (This is just my theory, I have no evidence. It would just be the most logical explanation). Companies have already implemented ai in more simple areas like customer service chatbots/to make calls or restaurants replacing chefs with robots

My experience is that the higher ups force the game to be released before it's ready, set unrealistic deadlines, understaff and cut corners, and my pet peeve: involve themselves in the creative process when they have zero qualifications to do so. So many great visions ruined by out of touch "idea men" in suits meddling with the creative direction of the game

there is no way for us outsiders to actually determan who is speaking the truth.
there are acusations and statements from multiple sides.
truthfulness can not be determined, all it does is sound plausible and valid.
but as of now, treat it as just words, lean back, shelve your expectations for the game and watch it play out.
or not, maybe yellowstone will compleatly take over your attention span.

investors need to just stop. their job is to provide funding to things they believe in with the hopes of a good return. not to wrest control from the people you're investing in for a quick buck.

its something well known i think, the most pro consumer developers etc are always the ones without investors, such as valve, larian, small indie teams or single person, etc

It's everything, this system does not work. It doesn't make sense to have the majority of investors/shareholders be completely disconnected from whatever company, they just see a black box that pushes out money.

Real gamers are being pushed out of the positions of actually making games.
The people making most of the games these days only care about money, not quality.

It’s missing one important point about these “inventor expectations”, maybe the studios seeking investment shouldn’t oversell their project. They could hust stop overselling it! Not to the investor, and not to the player!

the gaming industry always had issues but covid put a light on the gaming industry as we were all at home playing through the lockdowns and once hedgefunds and investors cotten on it, they pushed it over the edge as they wanted to throw money and get games developed quickly causing the likes of cyberpunk, battlefront 2 to fail as they weren't ready when released or laiden with mirco transactions, and we now we are seeing the effects of investors wanting their money back by bloated costs on games or shutting down well known and good studios and laying off 1000s of developers, but on the flip side we are having a rise in indie developers which we need to the gaming industry going
