I always tell people “I am ok with my heart breaking a little bit so their heart never has to be broken again.”

I had two dogs and have fostered a pretty decent array of dogs. I fostered knowing I would not keep one of my fosters—I didn’t need more dogs and I wanted my fosters to have a home of their own that they were chosen for.

Same! You can’t keep rescuing if you keep them.

Ppl that say that don’t understand the point of fostering! I HATE when they say that, too. Fostering- er let our hearts break a little so theirs never breaks again. ♥️

I recently read a comment on this topic that resonated with me: some people cannot fathom love without attachment. As a foster, it feels beautiful and fulfilling to love them, and then let them be loved equally, if not more, by someone else. And then I get to do it again, over and over.

This! The number of people telling me I had to keep Sandy was crazy. I told them if they kept saying it, they had to donate to Knine. 😂 Did I love Sandy? Yes. Did I celebrate him getting adopted? Also, yes.

You give your foster dogs the ability to feel love, when they may have never felt that in their lives. That is a gift to those who adopt those dogs.

I always say fostering my rescues is the most rewarding experience of my life. I wish more people believed me. Fostering saves lives, fostering is the backbone of rescue. ❤️

I've fostered dogs from 1 day old to seniors... and kittens. The first ones were the hardest... but then you know the routine and your heart knows you can love them, but they will have wonderful lives with their new families.

I cry every time we our fosters go to their forever homes. I love them so much, but the goal is goodbye.

I volunteer at our local shelter and I get a lot of “I could never volunteer because I would want to take them all home!” Ugh… it makes me crazy because we could really use the help and the animals would love to have attention and support when they are scared in the shelter ❤️🐾

I never thought I would be able to foster without keeping all the dogs but it is a different mindset when you take them knowing they're not yours.

I was so lucky to be a foster. I made a new friend with the person who adopted the rescue pup I was fostering. We've dog sat for each other and share pics of our furbabies. Fostering is letting go of something you love. You don't have to keep something you love. 🐾❤️🐾

Absolutely!!! You cannot help OTHER dogs (or cats) if you adopt every one that you foster! We can love them without adopting them as well! Thanks for all that you do ❤️

I fostered once and was pressured to keep the dog so I did. He’s a great dog, but he could’ve been great with anyone and now I can’t foster again.

I can't foster but thank goodness people like you can and do! 🥰 I don't have emotional strength to give a foster up.

I foster kittens and people never believe me when I say I don't keep them. It's the whole point! I do love them but they move on so I can help the next round.

As someone who is conclusively never having kids, I have a great time with the kids of those close to me and becomes a bombardment of "oh gonna have kids now I see" and the like. The whole joy of seeing them is short term not long term commitment.
