@annectotero: Psychology is one of the specialty areas where people scoff or look down on Masters level clinicians when we see the most people in the industry. For me to get a doctorate in my field, I’d want to study and specialize in a specific topic. I don’t yet. One day maybe ! But I can do what I do and work alongside psychologists who do exactly what I do. A doctorate doesn’t mean someone is smarter, it means they are specialized in a specific topic of interest. For now: It’s not necessary. I am doing my dream jobs without it. All degrees take rigger and determination. This isn’t a competition of wits. We’re all on the same team. #therapist #psychology

You change lives on a daily basis, having a doctorate wouldn’t change what an amazing therapist you are 🥰🥰🥰

People may be a tad confused like @Elaine. Unfortunately, their comment pointed out the exact point I was making about shame. I’ll help clarify. In marriage and family therapy, when you get a Masters as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) you are specialized as a relationship and systemic therapist. If you move onward to get a PhD or PsyD in MFT, you’ll bill 90847 CPT, you’ll be specialized in relationships, and people will seek you out for such. This is not misinformation. That’s true. Please check CPT codes and Medicare/Medicaid standards for more information. The doctorate will make you an additional specialist in a subtopic but in fact, will not change how you bill or that you can provide couples and family therapy. You’ll be able to see people in this field without a doctorate. Hope this helps Elaine and other individuals curious about this. I also think the point was about shaming people with Masters, which, in fact, proved the point. It’s okay, fellow therapists. You’re doing amazing work in your field and I’m proud of you!!!
