@oxfordcitycouncil: Oxford needs homes, but with limited space, it can be difficult to find the right sites. That's where the Local Plan 2042 comes in... We have published the first draft of the Oxford Local Plan 2042 — a key document that will guide all planning decisions in our city for the next two decades. But we need your views on it. To deliver more affordable homes, the plan includes ideas for: ✅ Smarter use of land and redevelopment ✅ Options for densification in the right places ✅ Limited Green Belt review where absolutely necessary 👉 See what’s proposed and have your say about the future of Oxford on our consultation website.
We have homes. We just done have affordable homes.

Fed up of them allowing labs and the university to expand, they aren’t jobs for local people except for cleaning the offices who they can’t live in the city.

No, no it doesn’t, Oxford needs a place the elderly can go without being stung by big prices, and have a place they can go where they are part of a community, more houses is a joke, it’s busy enough as is

Oxfordshire city council have destroyed Oxford empty shops every where they’ve made so difficult to drive around the city you have to go out to the ring road to get to a few streets away from your house it’s a complete shambles

Why don't the UK Gov or any of the councils, ever seem to consider population density, with regards to living spaces? The reason happiness levels in the UK are so low, is the amount money required to buy the most basic accommodation.

All new developments of 30 to 40% already the issue is planning and nailing them to build. You seem to be implying that you have no building land and therefore you need to expand your reach so that you can get more land to build not sure that’s quite the case is it?

Get rid of the skyline law. We cannot be building for a pretend smaller population just for aesthetic purposes. It’s not like there’s even a famous viewing point that people routinely visit just to see the skyline. The spires are lovely, but you can’t keep them and start charging less than £1600 for grotty studio apartments.

Oxford’s housing crisis isn’t just about supply… it’s about ownership and purpose. Too many homes are in the hands of private landlords focused on profit, not on building stable communities. On top of that, mass-built, privately owned student housing continues to dominate available space, pushing long-term residents further out. I grew up in Oxford. I’d love nothing more than to stay and build a future here… but like so many others, I simply can’t afford to. Until housing is treated as a home first and an asset second, Oxford will keep losing the very people who give it its character.

I’d rather build on the green belt than adding in more accommodation and housing in central Oxford which is killing the late night scene. Every bar/pub/club are having housing build in their place or next door. They’re then moaning about the noise. Why not build on the unused industrial units in botley? Why not tell Oxford uni every time they build uni accommodation they need to supply land for affordable housing to get planning permission? Why not sacrifice some of the green belt so locals don’t get priced out by students?

Why so many homes needed in and around Oxfordshire?
Plans to build on any green land available and for who? Who is buying/renting all of these houses.
No one gets to have the say, you lot build regardless of anyone's views. All greed and wealth, that's all that matters and to hell with locals who find it more and more difficult to get their kids into a local school, or families trying to sign up to local GP's and dentists. Lack of shops and necessary services. We need less Turkish Barbers and nail bars and more useful shops where people can buy essentials, places where the services offered are legitimate rather than criminals who are known to the police but they turn a blind eye while these businesses are money laundering and drug smuggling.
This area isn't made for so many people to be crammed into already over populated spaces and what is happening is that people are getting fed up with being dictated to by councils.
Take a leaf out of Dorset council's book, the roads are well maintained, the streets are clean and tidy, there aren't thousands of houses being built and ruining the local landscape etc.
Oxfordshire is turning into an overpopulated, run down hole.

How about exploring all the unused office space for housing first, eg Jordan Hill? Oxford doesn’t need half the new housing you say it does. And .. will all this new housing be for people who have committed to live there without a car, or will they all have single/double car parking spaces?

I've lived in the Oxford area all my life and no, we don't need extra homes. The place is too busy and overpopulated nowadays and it's creating unnecessary strain on roads and the local services which you lot clearly aren't interested in funding.
