Youngins don't have the context to appreciate how crazy this was for the early 80s in an everyday Chrysler product. Solid state computer components were still very expensive and not common in consumer products. The original Texas Instruments Speak and Spell retailed for $180-$200 adjusted for inflation. Chrysler used an adapted version of that same Texas Instruments LPC speech chip which added significant production cost. It was definitely a gimmick, but an impressive and fairly expensive one for the time.

True story. Chrysler used Texas Instruments LPC speech chips, also used in the speaker and spell toy. But Nissan, in their talking cars used a miniature phonograph record, resulting in a more pleasing voice.

The car industry in the 80s was the golden era of vehicles. Besides Chrysler. Chrysler really missed the opportunity of the 80s to be iconic.

Nissan’s voice alert system was WAY better than this, but I think it used a plastic mini recording of a woman’s voice.

they way they get the voices on these old cars is so cool there's basically a little phonograph record with recordings of the voice at least that's how it was done in my car
