“Professionalism” and “resilience” are the most two most weaponized words in medical training. As someone with a decade of corporate experience before coming to med school, the infantalization of adult medical trainees is so unhinged.

Glad I never cried in front of them. But one attending was so nasty and mean to me, it made other people in the room (tech, reps, crnas) uncomfrotable. Got to the point if they knew I was scrubbing in with this attending, they would leave the room.

I left my program. I had a consultant who would sit me in a room with them for an hour straight before my shifts started and would just go on and on about how terrible I was. She did this multiple times with increasing frequency.

had a similar experience... no one defends you. stormed out of the OR and drove home on call and didn't return. showed up the next day, "where did you go?" was the only way it was addressed. bad attending eval showed up on medhub months later of course 👍

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I had an OR incident like this in medical school. I was sweating, drenching through my scrubs. Couldn’t even remember my own name by the time he was finished with me.

This was my former attending. I stayed for 2.5 years and dealt with the emotional / verbal abuse. No matter what I did was good enough. I’ve left but man…it was a dark time.

So fucking disappointing! I did facial trauma call every third night for three months between plastics and ent and I was OMS because my co resident was gone and the comment got was your not writing your consults notes hard enough because they couldn’t read the carbon copy . It was a triplicate form! And I yelled at the chief that he can go get a copy off the chart if he can’t read it! The program director in my quarterly review said I wasn’t a team player. No one in my program or the other services had ever done face call every third for three months! When I left never kept touch with any of them! I’m a woman!

Your body language, the physical discomfort you show listening to this says far too much about how we all have endured something similar. I’m so glad you both are speaking up about this. Medical training has too many toxicities
