Am I openly / hatefully discriminated against as a left-handed person? No. They don't outright punish kids for being left handed anymore. But I do face 1000 tiny inconveniences living in a right-handed world that add up to a shorter lifespan by 9 years. And I can ask for left handed accommodations. I can't ask for accommodations for being a woman however…

Saw this quote somewhere; Privilege isn't the presence of perks and benefits. It's the absence of obstacles and barriers.

ALL of this. I'm a slightly taller than average woman (5'7") and I struggle to get the laundry out of my washer. Is that a massive issue? Nope, but it should be accounted for in design.

I was doing this online driving class to get lower insurance and one of the things was that for people 5’5 or below it is unsafe to be in the front seat of a car and they should be in the back seat when ever possible. So like the average height of women? 🤔

I'm 5'4 and share most of these issues and I've never once thought of it as being oppressed. Most of the world is just bigger than me lol 🤷

I stopped apologizing for my set of “kitchen pliers” because of those water bottles. I now just tell the guys who tease me that they are jealous they don’t have kitchen pliers.

its bigger than all of these things too. women experience misogyny (which results in violence for many) everywhere we go, we are constantly in danger. this applies to white women as well.

This was extremely well conveyed. We always hear about the bigger things but never have I considered the height of a washer dryer or a battery. Small things I use all the time. Thank you for helping me expand my perspective.

Sorry if you alredy have this somewhere in other videos, but do you have any recommendations for resources that helped you learn more about intersectionality and what an indivdiual's role and responsibility in dismantling systems of oppression are? This is an area I am still unpacking in myself and I want to build a healthier relationship with than I have historically had. also AYYY ABRUZZO GRANDPARENTS REPRESENT!

I just wanted to ask what your thoughts are on Micro feminism. So many women say that feminism isn't man hating and this micro feminism trend completely contradicts what your feminism supposedly stands for.

so serious question here that might sound bad at first but I'm genuinely curious. Is some forms of missandry/misogyny ok? for example the battery you pointed out made more for a guy's hand size, far more of the industry is men, it's a laborious industry when not diy which bigger stronger men might make more sense so it makes sense and seems fair that most batteries for a power tool are made to fit men's sizes more from companies making tools for the industry, not that they should t make women's tools but it being a small(er) amount seems fair, (caveat the idea that women should be harassed or judged for going into construction being separate and wrong for restricting occupation opportunity), like I'm thinking of your example of having 3 pieces of chicken and giving two to your husband cause he's bigger. Then vice versa women are understandably more nervous of men because of the history of our culture, and we're bigger/stronger on average. like both examples are seemingly sexist towards the other, but I also have a hard time saying it's wrong for most power tool batteries to be made for men, and for women to be at least a little more apprehensive of a man they don't know vs a woman.

privileges are like super powers they give you advantages in some areas over other people, it doesn't mean you have no problems. a person that can fly has some traveling advantage over a normal person, but put them both in water their is no difference. but adding everything up those powers (privileges) can make you life easier.

It’s not a stupid game. Look at it and look at it honestly and there’s a lesson to be learned. Lend power where ever you can to who ever needs it. Take power from those who hoard and weaponize it.

We are very accustomed to systems of oppression to the extent that individuals are frequently unaware of their limitations within their society. As I White male I frequently am oblivious, but as a disabled veteran I am all too familiar. While it’s sometimes obvious it can be subtle, too.

I think a good example of this is I (a yt woman) and another person are walking down the street. This other person is a black man. I as a women am wary of his being a man, and he is wary of my being white. We live in a world where men hurt women and white people hurt black people. (speaking in generalities of course) we each have oppression AND privilege in that same moment depending on which lense you are viewing it.

Excellent vid! And I agree with the oppression Olympics being possibly being the most useless conversation when it comes to progress. However, I argue that the comparison between ACAB and All Men, doesn’t quite land perfectly. The former is a critique of how officers enforce the will of their state(which can be white supremacist and patriarchal in nature); however, an important fact to note is that no one is born a cop, that’s an active career choice that supports the systems we critique even if the officer is not doing it directly. I would argue a more equivalent and clean comparison for All Men, in the terms of racial oppression, would be the rhetoric that explains All White Ppl experience benefits and can find themselves upholding white supremacy even when they don’t really mean to. Similar to your explanation of how men benefit from a male centered society even when they don’t mean it.

Yes, but, some people just need to feel like theyre the most discriminated against. To that I say, let them. People who will face the challenges of the unfainess of life with a 'woe is me' attitude aren't going to just change because you logically and thoughtfully show how that is a flawed mindset. They just need a pity party.
