Two years ago, I bought this rose bush as a memorial to the loss of my pup Bobo 🐾 We buried it in His final resting place. Our hearts were broken. We had him since he was 2 and He lived 14 years. When the rose bush was bought, it had solid white rose blooms to remind us of him. He was solid white. A Colby Pit. The blooms were huge and gorgeous! Last year, however, the rose bush didn’t bloom at all. It didn’t grow at all. It was a reminder of devasting loss. I didn’t have it in me to pull it up, the stems still had a little green in them so I let it be. This year, it came back. But it’s covered in bright red rose blooms! It’s huge and has grown many stems full of roses. It’s absolutely gorgeous. It may not be white like I remember Bobo but it’s red and I can’t think of a better color to show the love we had for him 🐾 and him for us 🥹🫶🏻 🌹 This reminded me of my studies in Jeremiah chapter 32. The word of the Lord comes to Jeremiah telling him that his uncle’s son will come to him to purchase land. The thing about this land is that at the time Jeremiah was in prison and the land in the area that he would be purchasing had suffered great loss and destruction. Jeremiah also knew of the impending judgement still to come. Yet, the Lord tells Jeremiah in verse 15 that “houses, fields, and vineyards shall be owned again in the land.” Sure enough Jeremiah’s cousin comes to him just as the Lord had said. Jeremiah prayed to God for understanding and in the mist of not knowing the plan but knowing the Word of the Lord he chooses to praise God and be obedient. God brings assurance to Jeremiah afterwards and says “Behold I am the Lord the God of all flesh is there anything too hard for me?” Later in verse 40 God speaks further how He will bring His people back. He says ”And I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from doing them good but I will put my fear in their heart so they will not depart from me. Yes I will rejoice over them to do them good and I were assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and with all my soul.” 🌹 Sometimes, our vision won’t match God’s. We see the ashes, where he sees the beauty. We see mourning, He sees blessing. We see despair, He sees praise. We see brokeness, He sees planting. We see the outward value, He seems the inward value. We see destruction, He sees a way. We see a closed door, He sees one open. We won’t always understand what God is doing but later in time we will (John 13:7) So in this season when I am struggling to see it, I am still clinging to the belief that in every season, circumstance, and trial…He is still God and still in control. Why? Because it’s the Word of the Lord. He has a plan (Jer. 29:11) and He is not taken by surprise by anything. Sometimes, It will require faith, waiting, and obedience on our part but I know He is dependable. He is faithful.
