I wish there were more easily accessible opportunities for hard and meaningful physical labor for teenage boys these days. Ranch work, farm work, forestry, building work, etc. I’ve seen them thrive in these kinds of environments and learn the value of hard work, as well as responsibility and cooperation. It’s just not that easy to find work opportunities like this in urban and suburban environments today. But there’s something primal about learning about your masculinity while being surrounded by other men and young men doing meaningful hard physical work in those years that I don’t know how to replicate.

I can relate to this my son is 29 out of work for 2 years doesn’t have a life lives with me and my youngest and my partner. It keeps me up every night. I fear his life is running away from him. But I know to do too much for him and now he’s in a routine that’s easy for him . 🥺

One day at lunchtime, my 5yo son was asked to pray, he refused(he didnt say no, he just stayed mute). Everybody urged, his father insisted but he was adamant, then his father asked him to leave the table and miss lunch. I wanted to intervene but held myself together as ge needed the lesson. He went to the couch, sat there as we ate, then later fell asleep and did that for 4hours. At dinner time, he prayed uninvited and now volunteers to lead prayers at every meal.

My son got his drivers license, and totally changed. He drives us WHENEVER /WHEREVER, picks up groceries,gets up and goes to work on time,washed his own clothes. Seems small things, but I could never imagine him like this 3 y ago:)
