I was working the other night and a nurse friend came up to me asking about our program ( I'm a clinical instructor) she is actually thinking of switching from nursing to respiratory.

Respiratory Therapist still have to take TEAS test for entrance exam just like Nurses and the programs are not easy . Just like a Nurse we all have to use critical thinking !!! There are different healthcare jobs Nurses is just a common one .

Do they realize that RT schools only average a 45-65% pass rate where as RN programs have nearly a 90% pass rate? Or that we have to take two licensing exams and the pass rate is only 63%? And that our licensing exam is considered the hardest allied health exam? Where they only have to take one and their pass rate is again nearly 90%! Then also factor in that there are less respiratory programs… so with those stats, it’s actually more difficult to become an RT.

Respiratory school is one of the most challenging experiences I’ve had. I’ve always did great in school, but this program was an experience I don’t want to revisit 😅
