If a child or adult is choking: 1) Remain calm 2) Assess whether the person needs rescue attempts or not, if they are coughing on their own, let them continue, this is their best chance to expel that foreign body. Immediately attempt rescue if they have: ➡️ Weak or no cough ➡️ High-pitched squeaking noises or no sound ➡️ Pale or blue skin color ➡️ Unable to cough, speak or cry ➡️ Holding throat with hands 3) Have someone call 911 and attempt rescue maneuvers: ➡️ Give 5 back blows. Use the heel of the hand to strike between the shoulder blades (see images in video for positioning or adult/child/infant) ➡️ If no improvement and over 1 year of age, attempt 5 abdominal thrusts (aka Heimlich maneuver).
