INSPIRED REPENTANCE [2:286] Tribulations drain us, overwhelm us… soaking up every ounce of strength within. In the eye of the storm, it's hard to see past the chaos — to believe there's anything beyond the pain that surrounds you. But right there, in that darkness, the Qur’an whispers a verse. If Allah ﷻ has tested you, it's because He knows you can bear it. لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا "Allah does not burden any soul more than it can bear." (Qur’an 2:286) Lā yukallifu-llāhu nafsan illā wusʿahā These are the final words of the longest surah in the Qur’an. And maybe that's the point. Because just like Surah al-Baqarah, your trial may feel long — but even the longest chapters come to an end. And this ending… brings with it a new beginning. This verse isn't just a statement — it’s a door. A prayer follows immediately after. And not just any prayer. One spoken in the first person. As if Allah ﷻ Himself is giving you the words when you have none. Like He did with Adam at the start of the surah: فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍۢ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ "Then Adam was inspired with words by his Lord, and He accepted his repentance." (2:37) The surah comes full circle — from Adam… to you. A metaphor of history and the cycle every human being finds themselves going through From the first mistake… to this final mercy. And within this prayer lie gems: رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَآ إِن نَّسِينَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا "Our Lord, don’t punish us if we forget or make a mistake." You see, He knows what you faced. And He’s chosen to forgive your slips. رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَيۡنَآ إِصۡرٗا كَمَا حَمَلۡتَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِنَاۚ "Don’t burden us like those before us." Gratitude settles in your heart — you realise things could’ve been harder. But He gave you mercy. رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلۡنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦۖ "Don’t place on us what we cannot bear." A gentle admission… you’ve been stretched thin. And here He gives you permission to ask for ease. وَٱعۡفُ عَنَّا وَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَآۚ "Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us." Because maybe it wasn’t just mistakes. Maybe it was sin. Maybe it was failure. But even then… He gave you the words to return. أَنتَ مَوۡلَىٰنَا فَٱنصُرۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ "You are our Protector, so help us." This is the heart of the trial. That we don’t run from Allah ﷻ — We run to Him. So if you’re going through difficulties, and you feel like there’s no end in sight… read the end of the longest chapter in the Quran.
