Do you love God? Are you sure you do? One way we can really tell if we love him is if we long to obey him. Have you ever said…”well that’s not a salvation issue so who cares?” Or “I’m still going to heaven.” Or “I will just ask for forgiveness later.” Or “Jesus died so we no longer have to.” These are signs our hearts aren’t for God and our love for him is more about us. First of all where in the Bible does it say Jesus died so we no longer are obligated to obey? Why would Jesus death now make Gods commands that are good for us, now null and void? In fact read Romans 3:31. Jesus didn’t make sin not sin. He called us to a higher living with the Holy Spirit ability in us to be freed from sin. Jesus says…”If you love me, you will obey me.” We don’t follow God’s commands to get into heaven or to be viewed by men as righteous. We follow him because we have given him our life and trust him with it. I have really been challenging myself over the years if I’m following him for me or for him. An example is if you are following him for you than you will do everything close to sin just so you can say you obeyed him. I’m about to get real raw and this will be painful. I saved myself for marriage and I’ve been really proud of that. But did I push the boundaries of what that looks like? Did I do everything but “the deed”? Was my heart for obedience out of love knowing he knows best or was it so I didn’t get sent to hell? If I’m honest I’ve spent my life avoiding hell rather than loving God so much that I value every word he’s spoken. As I get closer to God, my heart gets checked daily. What am I willing to give up for him? Have I really given him all of me? Am I really living for him or just for me? Is my love unconditional for Him? We spend so much time asking him these questions. Do you love me God? Are you for me God? But we forget, he’s proven himself. A million times. The real question is do we love him? Are we for him? Is it our pleasure to obey him or are we always looking for loop holes?
