I fear people aren't being discerning reading this article. nowhere does Jeff say why the alts were subbed in last minute — the article stirs drama/attracts clicks by highlighting the rules of pre-game engagement but they're actually completely separate points

Sorry if you’ve answered this before but listening to you talk about this made me think of this... In the pregame stage, obviously all of the intended players are near each other, but where are the alternates at that time? Are the alternates doing the same type of press just in case they get added to the full cast but separately from the other players? Or does it become a scramble to do Press with them? Like in this case is where it’s only 12 hours… what are those 12 hours like for all of the players? How and when do the other players find out person X is no longer playing and there’s an alternate coming in?

From what I’ve heard from alternates who get in the game last minute, a lot of them feel like they’re “playing with house money” so they make bigger moves and are gonna play more risky because they weren’t even supposed to be on that season
