An double espresso with extra water would be a lungo it means you run more water though the coffee grounds rather than topping it up with water - lungo 4oz americano 8oz

I worked in a coffee chain for over a decade, people always would try and find ways to “game the system” and save a few pence.

Americano in most places here have too much water compared to the rest of Europe . Dbl espresso regularly too strong on its own.

Na he just wants a short americano, it’s so that there’s not too much water. Most big coffee chain americanos are huge. He’s not being cheap bc a double espresso and an americano at most places are around the same price

In New Zealand that’s called a long black. Maybe that’s what he wanted but didn’t think the barista would know what a LB was

espresso/black coffee leaves tannins in your mouth. this can stain your teeth and give you slight dry mouth. the water washes it away.

Quite common in Italy, Spain. Makes the drink slightly longer but not as much as an americano

Think he didn't want them to give him a small drink , he should've just ordered an Americano

He wanted a lungo. But no one knows what that is. Everyone always serves you a big watery coffee in this country. It’s a nightmare!

double espresso might be cheaper to buy and then he’s being cheeky by asking for hot water
